Burwell Senior Grows More Than Plants in BHS Greenhouse
April 14, 2026
Burwell High School senior Hildy Mann has truly made the most of her final year at BHS—growing more than just plants in the school greenhouse.
Throughout the year, Hildy has taken the lead in working, maintaining, and studying the BHS greenhouse, gaining hands-on experience that has made a real impact. From growing and harvesting fresh greens and vegetables for the school lunch program to propagating a wide variety of plants and flowers, her dedication has helped bring learning to life in a meaningful way.
Hildy’s success has been supported by strong mentorship from BHS Ag instructor Phil Simpson, along with guidance from local community members and gardening enthusiasts Michele Archibeque and Kelsey Trausch. Their shared passion and knowledge have helped Hildy cultivate both her skills and her future goals.
This fall, Hildy will continue her journey by studying Horticulture at Northeast Community College in Norfolk.
We are proud of Hildy’s hard work, initiative, and commitment—and excited to see all that she will accomplish in the years ahead!
