Burwell Public Schools Plan for using the ESSER Funds

***Allowable Uses are numbered, responses are in RED.

ESSER I (CARES ACT) Use of Funds

9. Planning for and coordinating during long-term closures, including for how to provide meals to eligible students, how to provide technology for online learning to all students, how to provide guidance for carrying out requirements under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (20 U.S.C. 1401 et seq.) and how to ensure other educational services can continue to be provided consistent with all Federal, State, and local requirements. Burwell Public Schools will use the money to help with Kitchen Staff Salaries and benefits for planning and making summer meals.

13. Other activities that is necessary to maintain the operation of and continuity of services in local educational agencies and continuing to employ existing staff of the local educational agency. Burwell Public Schools will use the funds for the salaries and benefits of our non-certified staff.  We reassigned some of our SPED paraprofessionals to working with our custodial staff and a few Paras used the FFCRA act.

ESSER II Use of Funds

13. Addressing learning loss among students, including low-income students, children with disabilities.  English learners, racial and ethnic minorities, students experiencing homelessness, and children and youth in foster care, of the local educational agency, including by

(A) Administering and using high-quality assessments that are valid and reliable, to accurately assess students' academic progress and assist educators in meeting students' academic needs, including through differentiating instruction.  (B) Implementing evidence-based activities to meet the comprehensive needs of students(C) Providing information and assistance to parents and families on how they can effectively support students, including in a distance learning environment. (D) Tracking student attendance and improving student engagement in distance education.  We plan to implement a new evidence based Math Curriculum K-12. This curriculum will address all students at all levels that attend Burwell Public Schools. The new curriculum will be aligned to the standards at each grade level in order to meet the needs of our students and have the capabilities to support teachers, parents and students for in-person or remote learning.

15.  Inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, replacement, and upgrade projects to improve the indoor air quality in school facilities, including mechanical and non-mechanical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, filtering, purification and other air cleaning, fans, control systems, and window and door repair and replacement.  We plan to upgrade our HVAC system in order to improve the heating in our building. Our boiler systems produce the majority of the heat for our building through the air handlers in each classroom and are filtered to provide quality air for our students.  If we do not have the boilers to provide the heat, our Mini split heat pumps are the backup heat source and do not provide sufficient heat for our students.

16. Other activities that is necessary to maintain the operation of and continuity of services in local educational agencies and continuing to employ existing staff of the local educational agency. We plan to address learning loss caused by COVID-19 by implementing reading interventions to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Our plan is to increase a part time staff member to full time in order to accomplish this. Our staff member would increase from 75% time to full time.

ESSER III Use of Funds

Incorporating a program called eduCLIMBER into our data analysis capabilities. This will help us monitor the academic progress and identify students that need interventions to get back to grade level.

(B) Implementing evidence-based activities to meet the comprehensive needs of students. Purchase intervention curriculum and core math curriculum, chosen from the NE Instructional materials list.

(C) Providing information and assistance to parents and families on how they can effectively support students, including in a distance learning environment. The use of eduCLIMBER will provide resources to parents and assist them in identifying the needs of their children.

(D) Tracking student attendance and improving student engagement in distance education. Purchasing online education materials

14. School facility repairs and improvements to enable operation of schools to reduce risk of virus transmission and exposure to environmental health hazards, and to support student health needs.

At this time we have not made firm decisions on how to use these funds but we are looking to improve our playground facility at the elementary school. This project would allow the students to spread out and social distance better during unmasked play time.

Improve the windows in the High School building. We also want to improve the quality of air through our HVAC in our high school gymnasium.
