Use Caution When Approaching A School Bus

September 09, 2014

Please use caution when approaching a stopped school bus.  There is a mandatory fine and a loss of three operator's license points if convicted of a violation of the law when passing a school vehicle. Under the new Nebraska law, drivers meeting or overtaking any school bus must reduce the speed of their vehicle to less than 25 miles per hour if the bus is flashing yellow warning lights.  If red signal lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, drivers approaching from EITHER direction must come to a comlete stop until the lights are off, the signal arm in retracted, and the bus resumes moving.  Please remember that the Calamus Kids Preschool bus makes frequent stops to pick up and drop off students.  Please be cautious as sometimes children tend to wander from the bus when the flashing stop sign on the bus is extended.
