6th Graders Show Their STEM Skills in The Great Chain Race

October 13, 2025

The Burwell Elementary School 6th graders are competing in a STEM challenge called the Great Chain Race. They were put into groups of 2-3 and each group was given 1 piece of construction paper, 1 pair of scissors, and 1 glue stick. They were given 30 minutes to plan the best way to cut and glue the paper to make the longest chain. After the 30 minutes were up they laid out the chains and started measuring them in metric form. They are currently working on converting those measurements from meters to centimeters and millimeters.

This is a great way for students to work on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills! Ms. Pitkin and Mrs. Archibeque have been leading their efforts in the Great Chain Race.
