Weverka Learning Academy Grant Continues to Provide Technology Tools at BPS

January 25, 2024

Burwell Public Schools received a new 3D printer with funds from Burwell’s Weverka Learning Academy Grant. The grant was established for Mary Lou Weverka, a Burwell graduate and life-long advocate of education. The printer is a FlashForge Adventurer 5 Pro and features an all-enclosed printing area as well as the latest in 3D printing software.

3D printers are machines that allow the creation of a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many thin layers of a material. Mrs. Weber’s Technology class not only learned the basics of 3D printing but they also unpackaged, set-up, and printed the first model on the new printer. The class also dubbed the printer “Doris” in a class vote.

The printer will help students learn about new technologies, allow them to create objects for use in the school and the community, and encourage creativity. Mrs. Weber’s Technology students Shayley Hulinsky, Kalli Joy, Calah Archibeque, and Regan Smith have been learning about real-world technology applications, coordinating live stream events, designing social media posts and much more during their time in the class and look forward to this new opportunity to use technology.
