Burwell Sophomores Explore Career Opportunities in Kearney
October 15, 2026
Burwell High School sophomores attended the High School Career Exploration Day on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Nebraska National Guard facility in Kearney.
The event provided students with the opportunity to visit more than 80 booths featuring local professionals and area colleges. Through individual conversations and hands-on activities, students explored a variety of career paths and gathered information to help them plan for the future. Students learned about the skills and training required for different careers, potential wage ranges, job demand, and the personal satisfaction that can come from pursuing various professions.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for sophomore students to gather information and start the career planning process by talking with several career professionals,” said Miss Julie Tetschner, Burwell High School counselor. “We are thankful for this free event sponsored by the Nebraska National Guard and the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Education and Leadership Committee.”
Following the career exploration event, the sophomores traveled to the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) campus, where they enjoyed lunch before participating in a campus tour. The visit gave students an opportunity to learn more about the university and experience a college campus firsthand.
During the tour, UNK head track and field and cross country coach Brady Bonsall, a 1991 Burwell High School alumnus, joined the group to greet the students.
The day offered Burwell sophomores valuable opportunities to explore career possibilities, connect with professionals, and learn more about postsecondary education. Experiences such as these help students begin considering their interests, identifying future goals, and making informed decisions about their education and career paths.
