BHS Seniors Attend "Reality Check" in Ord
January 08, 2026
The Burwell Jr. Sr. High School Seniors attended Reality Day on Tuesday, January 6th, at the Ord New Gym, hosted by the Ord Chamber of Commerce and Central Community College. The student experienced the reality of adulting. They were given a job, salary, family or not, etc.... and a monthly income. The next steps were to purchase a house, car, utilities, child care, clothing, communications, entertainment, groceries, insurance, health and beauty, medical, and donate to charity. Students visited each booth where adults in the community helped them make choices to complete the task. Throughout the task, students were also given chance cards. For example, some students got $100 as a birthday gift, while others had an unexpected appendectomy and didn't have health insurance. At the end of the activity, students evaluate their spending of wants vs needs. "This was a good workshop for students to gain an idea of what is expected after high school and how to understand the cost of daily living better," said School Counselor Julie Tetschner.
