BHS 11th Graders Attend Career Discovery Day

November 25, 2025

Burwell Juniors attended the Career Discovery Day on November 19, 2025 at the Central Community College Learning Center in Ord sponsored by CCC and the Valley County Community Foundation Fund.

Students had a full day of career discovery. Guest speaker Caleb Pollard the Executive Director for Valley County Economic Development inspired the students to find their passion, purpose, and how that can be profitable. Caleb helped students find tools to develop skills for a changing world.

Students also enjoyed a session on health and wellness with an hour of yoga by instructor Eric Richardson.

Dr. Amy Mancini, CCC Dean of Instruction had a very informative session on artificial intelligence and careers. Students discussed the use of AI in their everyday lives, classroom, and potential career.

The lunch entertainment was Vicki Pflaster with the Nebraska Department of Labor. She shared valuable information through a Jeopardy Game about the laws and ethics of a working teen and their employer.

The highlight of the day was Career Speed Advising. Several professionals from area businesses and professors from Central Community College met with small groups of student in a round of career speed advising. Students had the opportunity to learn more about three different career interests through this process, ask questions, and gather information.

“This is a great day for students to get a lot of practical career information in a small setting,” said Miss Julie Tetschner, School Counselor. “Students really enjoyed the career speed dating process and the chance to visit with professionals and college professors, and ask questions.”
