Burwell Students Visit Trausch Dynamics in Grand Island

May 12, 2025

On Wednesday, May 7th the Sixth grade HAL students traveled to Grand Island to visit Trausch Dynamics, a family business that specializes in the design and generation of hydraulic and pneumatic components and assemblies. This was a wonderful way for the students to see a real-world application of design, engineering and problem solving solutions. These are all topics that the students have been working with during their after-school HAL sessions with their guide, Mrs. Weber.

Sam Trausch, a resident of Burwell and an active community member, gave the tour of the facility and answered all of the questions that the students had. He talked about the education and experience of Trausch Dynamics employees as well as demonstrated the many pieces of equipment used in their manufacturing business. Sam emphasized the importance of accuracy in their industry and the students were impressed with the machines that were creating detailed components from raw materials such as aluminum.

The students learned that businesses like Trausch Dynamics have many departments like inventory, sales, marketing, accounting, engineering, mechanics, machining, and more. It is a complex operation that provides a great service for businesses around the world, including several agricultural-based businesses in Burwell.

Sam wowed the kids with a demonstration of the force of pneumatics with a can-crusher that was put together by college students using components from Trausch Dynamics. It was a great experience for the students and their sponsor, Mrs. Weber. The group decided that they would like to conduct a couple quick trips around Burwell before the end of school to see hydraulic and pneumatic components in action, so that they can understand their application in local operations. They ended the day with a quick trip for ice cream before returning home.

Thank you to Sam Trausch and the crew at Trausch Dynamics in Grand Island for this wonderful learning opportunity and for welcoming this group to their business.
