BHS Freshmen Attend "Connecting the Dots"
December 05, 2024
The freshman class from Burwell Jr. Sr. High School went to the Valley County Ag Complex in Ord, Nebraska on Wednesday, December 3rd. The students were given a “Connect the Dots” Career Simulation Exercise hosted by the UNL Extension. In this simulation, they were told about the importance of their education, types of careers and jobs, and what the impact of having a good job can do for your future. They were given some real-life situations and problems that showed them why having a good job is important. “This simulation really got me interested in certain types of careers. I liked talking to the person about the amount of college needed to become a Vet," said Natalie Conrad. The class next met with employees on career fields and was able to ask questions of their interest. An Employer Address was given to the students on advice to help them out in the future. The Burwell freshman also got to sit in on a few more speakers like Central Community College, Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA), UNL, and the National Guard. The day also included Breakout Sessions on networking, resume building, interviewing, and personality. The freshman and Miss Tetschner would like to thank the GLW 4-H Council for helping sponsor the students to attend this educational event.
