Burwell's Coach Gideon Will Lead Post Season All-Star Football Team

Following a successful stint in Class D football over several years, Burwell High School coach, Luke Gideon, will lead the West Team as Head Coach at the 41st annual Nebraska Eight-Man Coaches Association Sertoma All-Star football game, which will be played June 16 at 6 p.m. at Hastings College’s Lloyd Wilson Field.  Gideon will be assisted by Mitch Pfeiffer of Mullen, Jon Coffey of Blue Hill, and Mike Max of Burwell.

Former Nebraska football great Dean Steinkuhler heads the 2018 inductees who will be added to the Eight-Man Football Hall of Fame in a ceremony at halftime of the Eight-Man All-Star game.

Steinkuhler is one of 14 players being inducted to go with two coaches and two contributors.

The players going in are Nolan Beyer (Sidney St. Patrick), Terry Connealy (Hyannis), Brent Gatzemeyer (Bancroft-Rosalie), Scott Gray (Cambridge), Craig Hass (Beemer), La Vane Johnson (Eagle), Ken Mehlin (Humboldt), Lynn Menke (Marquette), Randy Rasmussen (Elba), Jim Scott (Ansley), Dean Steinkuhler (Sterling) and Dale Van Housen (Polk-Hordville).

The two coaches are Ron Peck (Beemer) and Bill Mimick (Monroe, Lynch, Spencer-Naper, Newman Grove, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family). The Mimick family is also receiving a family legacy award with sons Jeff and Tom Mimick (Spencer-Naper). The contributors are historian Bobby Mills and All-Star game announcer Russ Batenhorst.
