Evan Gideon Receives NSWCA Coach of the Year Honors

April 22, 2024

The Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association recently announced that Coach Evan Gideon of Burwell High School is the 2024 Class D Assistant Coach of the Year. This award, and others in the same category, are especially distinguished because individuals are nominated by coaches and winners are decided by a vote of their peers--the members of the NSWCA. Coach Gideon is actually a co-head coach with his dad, Luke Gideon, and while the title of co-head coach might be new, the sport of wrestling certainly is not novel to Evan.

Evan is a 2014 graduate of Burwell High School and was a 4-time state qualifier and 3-time state medalist. He still holds the record for career pins at Burwell High School. Even more impressive than his accolades on the mat are the relationships that Coach Gideon has formed through the sport of wrestling. He continues to build relationships with competitors and other coaches, giving his time to take student athletes in grades preschool through twelfth grade to off-season tournaments, camps, fundraisers and team building events.

Coach Evan Gideon will receive his award during the 2025 Burwell Wrestling Invite, in front of his home crowd. He will also be honored during the NSWCA Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, June 7, 2024 in Grand Island.

In addition to Coach Evan’s award, the entire Horn Wrestling camp is excited that the 2024 Longhorn wrestling squad earned third place at the NSAA State Wrestling Dual Championships and recently received their banner for the gym at Burwell High School.
