Taylor Places at State Voice of Democracy Contest

Jack Taylor, a senior and Burwell Jr.-Sr. High School,  was awarded 4th place and a prize of $600 for his winning Voice of Democracy.  He was sponsored in the Contest by the Taylor VFW.  The topic for 2016 was "My Vision for America."  The state contest was composed of over 13 entries.  District winnder were honored at an event by the Nebraska Governor.

Created in 1947, the Voice of Democracy (VOD) scholarship program is an audio-essay contest for high school students in grades 9-12 that annually provides more than $3 million in scholarships.  The first place winner, who competes with all of the first place VFW Department winnders in the nation, receives a $30,000 scholarship that is paid directly to the recipient's American University, college or vocational/technical school.
