Burwell Public Schools receive $1000 Grant for Beef Program

February 26, 2018

Burwell Public Schools received a $1000 grant for a beef program.  the grant is provided through Farm Credit Services of America's Working Here Fund.

With funds from the Working Here Fund grant, Burwell Public Schools will be able to process beef for their new local beef program.  the program allows students to have locally produced beef included in their breakfast and lunch at school throughout the year.  In addition to providing the students with beef, the school is working in conjunction with the FFA chapter to offer educational opportunities to students centered around the importance of agriculture.  Local community members will be donating the beef for the program.

"The three goals of the program are to improve the quality of the beef served in our breakfast and lunch program; market the importance of beef production to our community, and provide educational opportunities for all our students on the importance of agriculture," said Dan Bird, Superintendent of Burwell Public Schools.

The local beef program will also help promote the significance of beef production in the community.

"we value the opportunity to support local organizations, like Burwell Public Schools, dedicated to improving the rural communities where we live and work, said Zach Gansebom, Vice President of retail operations at FCSAmerica's O'Neill office.

Burwell Public Schools is one of 77 organizations to receive a Working Here Fund grant in the fourth quarter of 2017.  FCSAmerica awarded $125,180 during the latest grant cycle ending December 31, 2017.
