Help Preserve the History of Burwell Public Schools

December 06, 2017

For many, many years class composite pictures from 1931 to present have been displayed in both Burwell Elementary School and Burwell High School.  During recent remodeling and infrastructure upgrades in the elementary school, the composites from 1931 to 1973 were taken down so that they would not become damaged or dirty.    Many of these class composites are the only remaining pictures of Burwell graduates, making them important historical pieces.  The BHS Student Council would like to digitize these photos so that

1) there is a backup copy in case of an emergency (fire, water damage, etc.),

2) they can be displayed on a digital screen in both schools and on the school’s website.

While they are down, some composites need repairs, new glass and cleaning.  The composites will be put back up in the school buildings after they are scanned and repaired.  Since the images are quite old and delicate a company that specializes in scanning such documents will handle the project.  This process will require an investment.  To help defer the cost individuals or groups can choose to sponsor a class or multiple classes for $100 each.  Sponsorships can be made generally, anonymously or in honor of a class member.  The Burwell High School Student Council has already received a grant from the Calamus Area Endowment to get the project started.

To sponsor a Burwell Public Schools class please contact Burwell High School at 308-346-4150 or ronda.weber@burwellpublicschools.com to check availability.  Checks can be made to Burwell Public Schools-Student Council and mailed to Burwell Public Schools, PO Box 670, Burwell, NE 68823.
