Longhorns Kick-Off Speech Season
The Burwell speech team kicked off the speech season at the Central Nebraska Forensic League meet at Grand Island, Nebraska at Grand Island, Nebraska on January 12, 2019. Sixteen Longhorns traveled with the team and seven placed overall at the meet that had over 600 student speakers from 30 area schools. Placing 3rd were: Weston Svoboda in extemporaneous and Sage Konicek in persuasive. Fifth place honors in oral interpretation of drama were given to Chloe Marshall, Ashlyn Jensen, Kierra Ostrom, and Nikia Williams. Olivia Vore was 7th in poetry. Just one place short of a medal placement at 16th place were: Emma Hoffschneider in humorous prose and Karlee McBride in persuasive. Superior placement at the meet was given to the following: Weston Svoboda and Sage Konicek in duet, Jacob Busch in humorous prose, Tiffany Mayfield in both informative and serious prose, Carter Mann in extemporaneous, and Hayley Gideon in persuasive.
