Technology Innovations Class Hosts Drafting Education Zoom Discussion
April 04, 2024
The Technology Innovations class, led by Mrs. Weber, hosted Eric Ternus, the Drafting instructor at Northeast Community College, via Zoom on Thursday, April 4, 2024. The Tech Innovations students were joined by Mr. Novicki's Construction class.
Mr. Ternus discussed the differences in careers in Drafting, Architecture and Engineering but emphasized the importance of communication skills for Drafting program graduates as they not only create drawings for manufacturing and building but must also communicate with contractors, electricians, architects, and engineers. He also explained the Northeast Community College offers a 2-year program in Drafting as well as certificates and diplomas. Many students take advantage of a double major in Building Construction, Electrical Technology or HVAC combined with Drafting. He went on to say that careers in Drafting are in high demand. NECC typically sees 16-20 students graduate from their Drafting program each year with over 60 job postings shared with the college annually.
The students were interested to hear about some of the projects that NECC students work on, including a popsicle bridge project, drawings for houses that are built by the Building Construction and Electrical Technology classes on campus, virtual home walk-through designs, 3D modeling and 3D scanning.
To schedule a campus visit to the Drafting program or any other programs at NECC, Ternus said that students can visit their website at northeast.edu, select "campus visit," and then choose the date of visit and programs of interest. Mrs. Weber and the Tech Innovations class are grateful to Mr. Ternus for taking time to visit with them.
