Monday, October 24, was a much anticipated day for the students of Burwell Elementary, it was the day the students were able to play on the new playground! During the 2021-22 school year, the elementary playground was targeted as an area that could be improved upon. The goal was to make the playground safer and better for the kids.
Construction began on September 19, 2022, with many changes and improvements planned. Early work included some of the sidewalks being taken out as well as some of the gravel surface. Rubber mulch was put in to replace the gravel. New playground structures were added as some older ones were removed. Mr. Darrin Max, Mr. Dale Maynard, Mr. Kyle Drake, the school board, school custodians, Ryan Klimek and his crew have all been involved in this project. During construction, elementary students used the football practice field, tennis courts, track, and the football field for recess. This project was made possible through ESSERS funding.
