What's Happening for First Graders

by Barb Freouf

September 07, 2017

We are off to a great start. We are learning how important it is to LISTEN!!

September has come and gone!  We have learned how to work with a partner and we are still working on how important it is to LISTEN!!

We are learning some double vowels  to increase our reading vocabulary and about blends in reading. We also learned about Author's purpose, sequencing order of events so we can retell a story and about characters and settings of a story.

In Math we are working on getting to know our numbers without hesitation.  We are also learning/ memorizing the doubles 0-10.  We have touched on angles, corners, sides, and patterns of shapes.  We will be learning how to add and subtract to 10 very soon.

Language Arts this month is all about the sentence.  What is it?  How to write one.  First grade criteria for a sentence is 5 or more words, has to make sense, has a capital at the beginning and punctuation at the end of it.

Spelling-- we continue to work on that short a sound and all the words that are associated with that.  It also helps us to blend sounds when we read a word and increases our vocabulary.
